Ribeye leads UK boatbuilders in ordering new OXE300 for Superyacht tenders from Proteum
29-06-2020Ribeye Boats has become the first UK boatbuilder to place an order for the new OXE300, the world’s first 300hp diesel outboard in production. The globally renowned Rib builder has ordered three OXE300 33” leg from Proteum, OXE’s UK & Ireland distributor, to power single engine Superyacht tenders for two separate customers. Delivery to Ribeye’s Devon boatyard will be in July and August.

OXE is designed primarily for commercial users to achieve high levels of reliability – it has no weak links such as dog clutches, vertical drive shafts or gearboxes below the waterline. It uses a belt-drive system that is more durable than bevel gears and allows for the diesel’s increased torque to be transferred more efficiently to the propeller shaft. This also allows for the development of other high torque applications such as hybrid and full electric.
In terms of Torque delivered (EUR/Nm) and lifetime (EUR/Guaranteed Operating hr), OXE is the most competitive outboard on the market. It consumes 40% less fuel than a comparable petrol outboard and extends its operational range in excess of 60%. It meets the latest emission standards and reduces carbon dioxide by more than 35%, carbon monoxide by more than 99% and combined hydrocarbons and NOx by more than 70%, compared to petrol outboard standards (EPA-Tier 3, RCD SI-Outboard and CARB 3 star).
The development of the 300HP version has been able to draw on the operative feedback from the OXE diesels in service. The range includes 125HP, 150HP, 175HP, 200HP and 300HP options to meet different user specifications.
