Ribeye leads UK boatbuilders in ordering new OXE300 for Superyacht tenders from Proteum

Ribeye Boats has become the first UK boatbuilder to place an order for the new OXE300, the world’s first 300hp diesel outboard in production.  The globally renowned Rib builder has ordered three OXE300 33” leg from Proteum, OXE’s UK & Ireland distributor, to power single engine Superyacht tenders for two separate customers.  Delivery to Ribeye’s Devon boatyard will be in July and August.

“Ribeye is an industry leader and this is a significant endorsement for OXE300.  It signals that diesel outboards are a serious option for Superyacht customers who are showing increasing interest”, said Neil Taylor, General Manager, Proteum.  “Diesel meets their single fuel requirement while an outboard frees up seating and garage space and means a spare engine can easily be carried onboard”.

“With recent traction in the Superyacht industry for Diesel Outboard tenders, Ribeye have put extensive work into our diesel offering and as a result have become pioneers in the industry, with many of our recent tender projects powered by OXE engines,” said James Burroughs, Managing Director, Ribeye Boats.

OXE is designed primarily for commercial users to achieve high levels of reliability – it has no weak links such as dog clutches, vertical drive shafts or gearboxes below the waterline.  It uses a belt-drive system that is more durable than bevel gears and allows for the diesel’s increased torque to be transferred more efficiently to the propeller shaft. This also allows for the development of other high torque applications such as hybrid and full electric.

In terms of Torque delivered (EUR/Nm) and lifetime (EUR/Guaranteed Operating hr), OXE is the most competitive outboard on the market.  It consumes 40% less fuel than a comparable petrol outboard and extends its operational range in excess of 60%.  It meets the latest emission standards and reduces carbon dioxide by more than 35%, carbon monoxide by more than 99% and combined hydrocarbons and NOx by more than 70%, compared to petrol outboard standards (EPA-Tier 3, RCD SI-Outboard and CARB 3 star).

The development of the 300HP version has been able to draw on the operative feedback from the OXE diesels in service.  The range includes 125HP, 150HP, 175HP, 200HP and 300HP options to meet different user specifications.

Proteum keeps customers operating during Covid-19

Another successful Moteurs Baudouin commissioned engine, during these unprecedented times

27th May 2020, Proteum, Hamble, Southampton, UK Marine Specialists completed the commissioning and sea trials of the 8M26.2 engine from Moteurs Baudouin, for Welsh Seafoods Ltd on the Mercurius.

This is the second Moteurs Baudouin engine to be commissioned on one of their Brixham Fleet, within the last year. Sean Ryan, Director, Welsh Seafoods Ltd said: “Upon fitting our first Baudouin engine to our trawler we are really happy with the reliability and performance of the engine. The service provided by Protuem has been outstanding, from the initial commissioning of the engine to the on-going after service care.

We have received a high standard of help and advice from the team of professionals, any uncertainty during the re-fit and at present has been rectified immediately by a telephone call with their engineer. In addition, ordering parts has been hassle-free followed by a prompt delivery.

We were so pleased with the overall service from Proteum we have fitted a second engine in our other trawler.”  The 8M26,2 engine replaces the caterpillar engine in “Stephanie”, which is the sister ship to, “Mercurius”, which Proteum replaced last year.

Welsh Seafords Ltd were keen to meet the IMO and EPA standards to achieve cleaner shipping by delivering a practical, affordable and fully compliant propulsion system. The Baudouin M26.3 range addresses these challenges Welsh Seafords Ltd initially feared.

For over a century Moteurs Baudouin has been a dedicated designer and manufacturer of marine engines for the commercial marine, fishing and shipping sectors. Baudouin engines are highly regarded by commercial operators as they are purpose designed for the marine industry and offer a wide power rating range combined with competitive fuel consumption. Baudouin also builds its engines to forecast, not to order, to ensure availability for customers.

Due to the pressures and new working guidelines following Covid-19, Proteum has still secured orders, commissioned engines and completed sea trials; keeping their customers operational and ready to operate as soon as restrictions are lifted.
