Alamarin-Jet UK distribution agreement

Proteum has renewed sole UK distributorship with Alamarin-Jet

Neil Taylor, Proteum’s General Manager, expressed his pleasure, stating that Proteum is delighted to continue their excellent relationship with Alamarin-Jet. Both companies are aligned in supplying high-quality and reliable products to several of the UK’s leading boat and ship manufacturers, which are essential assets in the marine sector.

Proteum is looking forward to further growth as Alamarin-Jet now manufactures the Omega Series of water jets. These water jets are capable of high-speed efficiency (55+ knots) while maintaining extremely high bollard pull and cavitation margins, making them ideal for the UK’s increasing SOV (Service Operations Vessel’s) market supporting Offshore Renewables.

Stephan Ostrom, Alamarin-Jet’s Regional Sales Manager, also commented on the renewed sole distributor agreement, expressing his pleasure. He believes Proteum to be the ideal partner for their products in the UK and Ireland due to their professionalism and extensive engineering capabilities, ensuring service and support for the Alamarin range of water jets.

Double naming ceremony at NorthStar

NorthStar names two of its vessels.

Alison Kay is powered by twin OXE 300hp diesel outboards supplied by Proteum. The workboat is named after a Newcastle woman who founded The People’s Kitchen in 1985 and changed the lives of thousands.

North Star has been supporting the Dogger Bank Wind Farm with long-term charters for the past 10 years, delivering green energy to homes in the UK.

DSEI 2023

DSEI (Defence & Security Equipment International) returned in September 2023 and took place at London’s ExCeL, situated in the Royal Victoria Dock in London Docklands, exhibiting the latest defence technology. Sales Manager Simon Barnett represented Proteum.

DSEI is a fantastic opportunity to meet with existing and potential customers as the companies exhibiting at DSEI are at the cutting edge of technology; integrating the proven maritime powertrain systems that Proteum distribute into their design concepts is crucial to operational performance and longevity.

With several successful meetings, we look forward to bringing you news of some exciting projects in the pipeline during 2024.

Keeping Brownsea Island on the move

MV Castello

Proteum’s After Sales Manager Ben Allan enjoyed a day out of the office to support MV Castello, the 12M catamaran built by BW Seacat that first went into operation in 2021 and is fitted with twin Alamarin AJ340 water jets and the superb SIGMA joystick steering system enabling pinpoint steering in close quarters.

Ben was onboard to carry out routine maintenance with the drives now having accumulated over 4000 hours and also update steering sensors, preventative maintenance being crucial to reliability and minimising downtime to any commercial operator.

MV Castello operates at the entrance to Poole Harbour and supports the John Lewis Foundation on Brownsea Island, carrying up to 35 passengers’ cargo, ensuring the smooth running of one of the UK’s most famous National Trust properties.

Proteum is a UK distributor of Alamarin water jets; Alamarin knows the importance of future technologies within the marine industry and has invested heavily in next-generation control and monitoring systems, including fully autonomous operations, remote surveillance and remote monitoring. All are built on the SIGMA CONTROLS platform.

Compliments are class!

Proteum’s engineer James Knox was recently dispatched to Newcastle at short notice to support Edda Wind’s Boreas Worker. The Chief Engineer aboard Edda Boreas thought highly of James’ work, as he acknowledged James:

“I would like to say I am impressed with James (during his time aboard Edda Boreas). He was very thorough in his diagnosis of the suspected problem on the engine and explained it all well.

James worked ALL day without a break to rectify our issue, which hopefully is fixed.

Everything was left clean and tidy—5 stars for James from me.”

At Proteum, understanding the importance of swift intervention and the quality of our in-service support is vital to the continuous growth of our commercial customer base. Congratulations to James on a job well done.

Back to school for BUKH training

A new school year begins!

Proteum’s commitment to providing excellent engineering delivery to our customers saw engineer Jack Woodford heading for a classroom, but this time at BUKH’s HQ in Krusa, Denmark.

Throughout the training course, Jack gained valuable experience in the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and warranty of the latest V8 P series engine launched by BUKH in 2023.

The BUKH V8 6.6L is a powerful, compact, lightweight diesel engine designed to suit all commercial and leisure applications.

With the strong Duramax base engine and marinisation carried out by BUKH in Denmark, the BUKH V8 is the right choice when reliability, performance, compact and quality are the keywords for your project.

Controlling the growth in Unmanned Surface Vehicle

The Unmanned Surface Vehicle market is expected to increase by at least 15.1 % by the end of the decade, according to the Market Statesville Group (MSG). The interface between the vessel and ground station is critical; Glendinning Controls distributed by Proteum in the UK have already proven themselves within several applications, whether water jet, inboard or outboard.

Fully adaptable and programable, the Glendinning range of controls easily interfaces with various autonomous systems.
